When I first started to write this page on Figurines my immediate thoughts were of all the pretty ladies and animals that I remembered seeing at my Great Grandmothers as a Child.
We all have memories of been told ‘Just Look. Don’t Touch’.
Glass cabinets of beautiful little statuettes, so intricate and fine they just asked to be touched. Shelves of little animals and creatures of our imagination.
But as I researched further, I was surprised (probably as I had never thought about it before) to find that the first known figurines date back to at least 33,000BC. This is according to the discovery of three ivory figurines found in a cave in south-western Germany.
And even more surprising was, that one of these figurines was that of a Horse.
The National Geographic has a great article on this, go here to read it.
OK so the figurines I have found you, may not be 35,000 years old, but they are delightful. And each one beautiful.
